"A farmer at Shipley in Derbyshire. The first Samuel Brentnall was the son of George and Jane Brentnall of Shipley, an only son, a good scholar, and what was better a very devout and holy man....I cannot trace my descent from Kings and nobles but I can trace my descent from what I count much more honourable those worthy ejected ministers - those noble confessors, who for truth and a good conscience cast themselves and families on the providence of God and kindness of their friends rather than teach for doctrines the commandments of men. I believe I am descended from three of these worthies at least and from several other pious and religious persons of both sexes." George Brentnall 1777.
